Currently a Form 6 student in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at Diocesan Boys' School, majoring in Music. He began learning erhu under Mr. Ma Tai-cho in 2022. He has shown a deep passion for music since he was young and began learning erhu, violin, and piano at the age of eight.
In the 2024-2025 academic year, he was appointed as the concertmaster of the Diocesan Boys' School Chinese Orchestra, leading the orchestra to numerous awards and many major performances, including winning the Gold Award at the 2024 Hong Kong Youth Music Festival Chinese Orchestra Competition (Secondary School – Group C) organized by the Hong Kong Music Office, and winning the championships in both the Chinese Orchestra (Advanced Category) and Erhu Ensemble category at the 77th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. He also served as the concertmaster in the joint concert with the Taipei Chinese Orchestra Youth Orchestra and also performed as erhu soloist at the school's anniversary concert. He has represented the school in the "Kaleidoscope of the Arts" concert celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Besides his role as a concertmaster, Yau also has a keen interest in composition and has arranged pieces for the school's erhu ensemble in several competitions. He is also an active student conductor in numerous school performances, coordinating rehearsals for both the string section and the Chinese orchestras.
